WHO WE ARE!
South Derbyshire Wildlife and Animal Rescue was founded in March 2021 with the soul goal of helping animals in need. We are a not for profit organisation. We mainly assist in wildlife emergencies however we also take on surrenders of animals and offering re-homing. We were started with the dream of a 15 year old wanting to help as many animals as he could. From our first ever animal, Percy the Racing Pigeon, to our largest Rescue horses; every animal means the same to us. Our motto is, and always will be that "We help them all, big or small."
What do we do?
We are primarily a rescue and rehabilitation center. We help every animal we can, from the smallest hedgehog to the largest cow. We have access to a brilliant network of vets who share our values and do their best to support wildlife and abandoned animals. We are based in Sudbury, Derbyshire and cover the entire Derbyshire and Staffordshire area. We will always aim to release animals back to the wild after rehabilitation, where this is not in the animals best interest we will offer a permanent sanctuary to them.
DO YOU EUTHANIZE ANIMALS?
We always try our best for our patients no matter the cost or effort involved, however there are some animals that are too badly injured or just too ill to make a recovery that would give a good quality of life. There are also some animals out there that are just too dangerous to be kept due to the safety of our volunteers of the general public, in which case we have a duty by law. Under these circumstances, a decision will be made on a case by case basis with advice from our vets and the consideration of our volunteers, along with any other organisation/agency involved. We do not euthanize based on the ability to re-home or release the animal, every animal deserves a chance. These decisions are not taken lightly when we are required to make them.
