EMERGENCY ANIMAL INCIDENTS

If you have found an animal that is in need of immediate care right away, please do not read any further and call us on 01283 296331. The extra 10 minutes could be the difference between life and death.

If there is a live animal in the road that is creating a dangerous situation to drivers, please call 101 or 999 depending on the severity of the issue. NEVER enter a live lane on an A-Road or Motorway to attempt to help an animal.

-I found a racing pigeon that isn't flying! What do I do??

First of all, keep calm. Racing pigeons will often take breaks from flying as they can fly hundreds of miles. Use the SWIM Acronym!

Is the bird SAFE?

Does the bird look WELL?

Is the bird visibly INJURED?

Is the bird MOVING around?

If the answer to any of these is "No," then call us or your local wildlife rescue!

-I hit an animal! What do I do??

First of all, CHECK YOURSELF, CHECK YOUR PASSENGERS! Is anybody injured? If you are parked, are you or the animal in a dangerous location for yourself or other drivers? If the answer is yes to any of the questions above, call the relevant emergency service on 999 right away. As hard as it is, you should put yourself and other road users safety first. Turn on your hazards if your vehicle is damaged and leave the vehicle if it is safe to do. If there is a crash barrier, get behind it. If the animal is still alive and is injured, call us or your local wildlife rescue right away.

-I found a baby bird on the ground, what do I do??

KEEP CALM. Baby birds fall out of nests all the time and do not necessarily need our intervention. We would only intervene if the animal is:
A: Too young to be learning to fly

B: Visibly injured

C: Unwell

D: In a dangerous location
If the bird is non of the above, please leave it alone. Parents will usually be nearby and will be waiting for you to leave.

-I can see a hedgehog out in the day, what do I do??

You should call us or your nearest Rescue center immediately to do an assessment and decide if the animal needs human intervention.

-I found an abandoned pet! What do I do??
